About The Sun Number™
What is a Sun Number Score?
A Sun Number Score is determined by the number of solar panels that will fit on a roof based on the size, orientation, and pitch of each roof planes and the shade across the entire roof. We also factor in the local climate, cost of solar, and cost of electricity.
What should I do next?
Sun Number Scores are a first step in determining a rooftop’s solar potential. A good second step is to provide monthly electricity bill costs and fill out the Sun Number form to be contacted by a local solar installer who will work with you on solar options.
Who is Sun Number?
Sun Number was funded by the U.S. Dept. of Energy SunShot Incubator to provide consumers with a simple way to evaluate their home’s solar potential. We also provide solutions to solar installers to pre-qualify buildings for solar, and to support their marketing campaigns.
At Sun Number, LLC, we’re focused on increasing the public’s awareness of the solar potential of
buildings through our Sun Number™ Scores. Founded in 2012, we are the recipient of the U.S.
Department of Energy’s SunShot Incubator grant that enabled the development and initial
deployment of Sun Number Scores. Our goal is to increase solar installations by providing an
easy-to-understand assessment of a building’s solar potential and streamlining the solar
installer’s customer acquisition process.
